Office Operations
While NIYC has closed its offices to in-person meetings and appointments to protect our participants, partners, and staff, NIYC is open for business. We are now meeting clients over the telephone and conducting business by telephone and through online meetings and workshops going forward, until the COVID-19 rules allow us to go back to business as usual.
While we cannot open our computer and resource rooms to the public, we can still work with qualified and enrolled participants to deliver core career services such as workshops (online), career and job search coaching, employment and training development planning, referrals, and internship placement (paid work experience placements).
Our participants can still receive intensive services including individualized skills and aptitude assessments (online), individual education/employment plans, individual and career counseling, case management, career exploration and supportive services (tuition assistance, transportation/clothing allowance, book reimbursement).
We are still offering training services for participants that include occupational skills training, upgrading, and retraining.
For classroom training, while we normally do not fund online training and classes, during COVID-19, traditional classroom programs that are temporarily being delivered via online classes are allowed. So, if the school or training facility you are attending or will be attending normally offers its training in the classroom or in-person, but is now just temporarily delivering its programming online, it may be eligible. We still do not fund programs that were and always will be offered solely online.
We also can offer paid work experience (internship) placements at partner work sites. These paid experiences start at $10.50 an hour and range from 20 to 40 hours per week for 4 to 26 weeks depending upon the type of placement and the participants needs. Work Experience is designed to enable participants to explore career options and gain exposure to the working world and its requirements and to enhance the employability of individuals through the development of good work habits and basic work skills. During COVID-19, NIYC will not place individuals at work sites where they feel uncomfortable or at risk. There are many types of essential and non-essential positions available.
If you would like to schedule a phone appointment to determine if you are eligible or to explore how NIYC can help you, please call the NIYC office nearest you: Albuquerque, Farmington, Gallup.
To see if you are eligible, a Pre-Application can be filled-out here: NIYC Workforce Development
Again, NIYC staff can be reached by phone and email during regular business hours (8:00 AM-5:00 PM), Monday-Friday. Because the safety and health of our staff, participants, and our community is our number one priority, we urge you to please be sure to practice good hygiene and follow all health care guidelines.
In the meantime, please be safe and stay healthy. – National Indian Youth Council, Inc.
